The Habit of Making Things Harder Than They Are

Most people don’t avoid action because they’re lazy.

They avoid it because they’ve made it feel bigger than it actually is.

Before anything even starts, the mind begins building it up. The workout feels long. The task feels overwhelming. The conversation feels uncomfortable. The project feels complicated. What should be a simple action turns into something heavy before you even begin.


And once it feels heavy, resistance shows up.

This is the real problem. Not the work itself, but the mental weight placed on it beforehand.


Overthinking stretches small tasks into large ones. It adds unnecessary steps. It creates imagined difficulty. Instead of “start,” the brain turns it into “plan perfectly, feel ready, then begin.” That delay is where most people get stuck.


Because the longer you think about something, the harder it feels.


The irony is that most tasks are not nearly as difficult as they feel in your head. The difficulty lives in anticipation, not execution. Starting is uncomfortable. Thinking about starting is often worse.


You feel the weight of the entire task before doing even one small part of it.

This is how simple things become avoided things.


A 20-minute task feels like a full day. A short workout feels exhausting before it begins. Sending a message feels like a big decision. None of these things are objectively difficult, but the buildup makes them feel that way.


And the more you repeat this pattern, the stronger it gets.

You train yourself to associate action with effort before it even begins. You build a habit of hesitation. You become someone who prepares, thinks, plans, and delays — instead of someone who starts.


The warrior breaks this habit by simplifying everything.


He doesn’t ask, “How do I do all of this?”He asks, “What is the first step?”

He doesn’t wait to feel ready. He starts before the mind has time to build resistance. He understands that clarity comes after action, not before it.


Most of the time, once you begin, the weight disappears.


Momentum takes over. The task shrinks. The thing that felt overwhelming becomes manageable. Not because it changed, but because you stopped thinking about it and started doing it.


This is the shift.


The goal isn’t to make everything easy. It’s to stop making it harder than it needs to be.

Start smaller than you think. Remove unnecessary steps. Don’t build the entire mountain in your head. Just take one step forward. Then another.


Because action simplifies what thinking complicates.


The warrior doesn’t win by overthinking better. He wins by starting faster.


And most of the time, that’s all it takes.
